Winter League Match Report

WINTER LEAGUE CAPTAIN - TERRY WALSH

2011

16th November 2011

Javea Green 6 Benitachell 4

This was a match spoiled by the fact that both teams were under strength, but as it turned out this was a very competitive game, but in the end home advantage proved to be the deciding factor, well done to stand in skip Andy Nelson and his four also to Alex Fisher and his team for giving us our points.

Once again the Berleen teams did well coming away with a creditable draw and a share of the points. Thanks must go to Richard and Jinty Chamberlain and to Iris and Richard Gardiner who came in at short notice to help us out.

Next week we entertain Bonalba at home so fingers crossed for a positive result.

Bob Cockell.

La Siesta 8 v BBC 2

When will the doom and gloom end, yet another poor performance by the star team, the one bright spot being when Yvonne Briden conjured a last bowl into a head packed with five opposition bowls to make two and secure the points, but it was a good team effort and this four never deserved to lose. The rest is misery.

But wait, what is this I see, yet another win for our Berleen team, keeping the flag flying, well done Carole Nicholas and your three Trojans

Next week we visit Javea Green when both teams will be decimated because of the trip to Portugal by the National Squad, a game the CBBA refused to allow us to rearrange, the team selections will be interesting.

BBC 3 V Quesada 7

Sorry folks, this is not the report you were hoping for, yet another below par performance.

We were playing a good team but that is what the Winter League is all about, unfortunately the way the Southern clubs switch players you never know who you are going to be up against next. Our only successful team was that led by Alex Fisher well done, we also managed to share the points on rink 1 where Clive English held on for a well earned draw.

Peter Griffiths was very unlucky to lose going down on the last end. The team led by Terry Walsh was in a close game, but dropping a big seven towards the end killed off their chances.

Now the good news, the Berleen teams were up against two good sides but won on the aggregate scores to secure the points well done all of you.

We are at La Siesta next week, so dig deep and let us get the job done

Greenlands 8 V BBC 2

I am sorry to report that this was not the result we were hoping for, after two good wins the wheels came off a bit, we were up against a strong side and although we played very well we just missed out on the points, only managing one win, that from the side led by Clive English, well done guys. however, the team skipped by Peter Griffiths only lost out on the last end having had a close fought game.

The Berleen also fell just short by seven shots, but well done to the debutants, Ruth Meadows along with Jinty and Richard Chamberlain. Next week sees the visit of Quesada, let us make sure we get things back on track.

19 October 2011

Today we received our first visitors from South of Alicante we fully expected a tough game and were not disappointed. However all our teams performed well, the closest game was a hard fought affair between the BBC team led by Clive English and a strong opposition skipped by Keith Jones, the game finishing in an honourable 15 all draw.

The shock of the day was when the team of Mary Cockell, Peter Collins, Andy Nelson and Peter Griffiths shot into a 23 to nil lead, they ran out 36 to 6 winners and crowned their performance with a hot shot, a very rare occurrence in the Winter League. Very well done, our other two teams did the business and BBC ran out very impressive 9 points to 1 winners, let us hope that we can continue the good work into the season, good luck to everyone.

Both our Berleen teams were both successful and came away with the points.

12th October 2011

Today saw the start of a new season, with a first visit to new boys Vista Bella.

This was an experience for many of us as the speed of the green is considerably slower than our own, however all our teams equipped themselves well and we earned a very creditable 8 points to 2 victory, our winning rinks were led by skips Clive English, Alex Fisher and Peter Griffiths.

Well done everyone. We also took along a friendly team, led by Carol Nicholas, as Vista Bella do not take part in the Berleen League, they all played very well and were unlucky to lose by a single shot. The only surprise was the meal which consisted of a fried egg with everything, but it tasted good.

Well done captain Terry and lets hope we can all keep up the good work for you.
