Valencian Cup

BBC were proud to host the early rounds of the Northern Section of the Valencian Mixed Triples and Mixed Fours Championships last week. BBC was represented by three teams of Federated bowlers in both events.
Vivian Erridge, Maggie and Norman Richardson and Malcolm Sprawson in the fours had an unfortunate draw in both events as they came up against their Club mates, and lost both of their matches in the preliminary rounds.
Our other teams both survived in the fours and played their quarter final matches at Montemar in very hot weather. Bob and Mary Cockell, together with Derek and Christine Mawson narrowly lost their match by only one shot against a very strong San Miguel team. They put up a good fight, but sadly it wasn't to be. Our other team, skipped by Maureen How who came in to replace an unfit Alex Fisher, fared no better on the adjoining rink. Maureen, Tony and Maggie Lawley and Bert McLean were soundly beaten by a very on form San Luis team.
However, the triples team of Maggie and Tony, again with Bert as lead, marched their way through to the quarter finals and semi-finals. Each of them played some stunning bowls along the way, and so arrived once again at Montemar to do battle in the final. Things didn't go quite their way, and they were beaten by Finca Guila. Our picture shows them proudly holding their finalists trophies. The delighted players were really pleased by the number of BBC members that turned up to support them throughout the tournament. Well done BBC.

With a new fees structure operating from next year, a Federation Licence for all events excluding the Nationals costing just 15 euros, this competition is likely to become increasingly popular, and hopefully BBC will be better represented in the future.
