TOURING TEAMS

For the past two weeks the Club has been engaged in entertaining Touring Teams from the United Kingdom, resulting in considerable success writes Eric Kay, BBC Vice Captain.

On the 28th September we were competiting against Plymouth R.C.S. and on this occasion we registered a resounding six nil victory. Club Members should take considersble satisfaction from the fact that this was achieved by bowlers of a wide variety of skill level, including new bowlers such as Lin Johns. The event almost failed to take place because of the appauling weather, but due to the assistance of persons such as Richard Rossley and John McNeilley we managed to clear the Green of water in time to hold the match

The 30th of September witnessed the arrival of the County Bowling Team from Southhampton and they too were subjected to lethal power of our "MASTER" bowlers. This match also resulting in a six nil win, being achieved by no mean contribution of relatively inexperienced bowlers such as John and Ann McEwan, Carole McNeilley,Ruth Meadows,Peter and Liz Emmett as well as our stalwarts, Les Porter, Sheila and Pip Manser, Bob and Moly Mogg Fred Crowson, Jim Pull and Dorothy Donaldson.

The wonderful weather of the 6th October saw us entertain Astolan B.C. from Guildford in Surrey. This turned out to be quite a tussle with the ultimate score being four games to three, in favour of Benitachell. A noteworthy victory was registered by Alistair Hepburn and his team on Rink 2, whilst the valiant effort of Wendy Symonds could not prevent those on Rink 1 being subjected to a significant defeat The remaining games were close fought affairs with the final shot difference being 143-110, in favour of the Home Side.

I should like to register my most sincere thanks to all who participated, in one way or another, but in particular to Malcolm Sprawson and Marion Easter who both responded very late to provide substitution for players unable to play.
