Thursday 26th November VALENCIA SHOPPING TRIP

Sunday 13th December Carol Concert by the Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir. 7.00 for 7.30pm
Monday 14th December Christmas Party at the El Andaluz, Moraira. 7.30 for 8.00pm. €23 pp.
First Aid Course
Over a dozen members took part in the recent first aid course run, on behalf of the Club, by Juan and Nora of Asociación Amigos Europeos de Jávea.
Juan and Nora explained the basic principles of first aid and how to react when confronted by an injured person or one in obvious discomfort. They also demonstrated various items of equipment carried in each ambulance and demonstrated one device for checking circulation and oxygen levels of the patient. We were getting along fine until Mike Easter was checked, only to discover he was showing no readings at all!! The sensor was placed on his finger, so it wasn’t just a case of - dead from the neck upwards. All came right in the end and a reading was obtained at the end of the session. The course concluded with us all trying our hand at fitting slings and bandages, some performed better than others.
If it has helped us to feel more confident to assist someone in an emergency, then this course will have been worthwhile.

WALKING TREASURE HUNT IN HISTORIC BENISSA

Congratulations to Pat & Eric Johnson, Fred Crowson and Liz Henningham for organising such a lovely day on Sunday. The 3-hour walk around Benissa was most interesting and it is amazing how different, when on foot, a town can be from the one you drive through regularly. We probably doubled the number of people going around in Benissa on a Sunday morning and the locals must have wondered why all these Brits were walking around with pieces of paper and looking up at the windows of their houses. Luckily no-one was arrested by the police!
If the Treasure Hunt clues really tested us the Quiz was even harder but every bit as enjoyable.
The day was rounded off with a lovely lunch at La Naya Restaurant in Benimarco and we were all very glad to be sitting down and resting our feet.
The winners of the Treasure Hunt were:
1st - Chris & Gerald Dobson, Wendy & John Hiskey and Veronica Petty (54.5 points)
2nd – Mary & Bob Cockell and Dave & Viv Humble (54 points)
3rd – Maggie & Tony Lawley and Cynthia & Reg Cutts (53.5 points)
4th – Chris Evans and Clive English (51.5 points)
And the Quiz was won by:
1st – Dennis & Brenda Talbot and Linda & Mike Faulkner
2nd – Chris & Gerald Dobson, Wendy & John Hiskey and Veronica Petty
3rd – Maggie & Tony Lawley and Cynthia & Reg Cutts
Congratulations to the winners, who received packs of locally-produced food and wine, and well done to everyone for completing the walk and managing to stay awake over lunch.
We now look forward to next year and to seeing which town the winners will be invading with the marauding hoards of intrepid Treasure Hunters from BBC.
CHRISTMAS FAYRE - SUNDAY, 22 NOVEMBER 2009 after Club Day
A number of stalls will be set up in the Clubhouse and Courtyard selling a range of products, i.e. Clothes, Jewellery, Kitchenware, Garden/Household Items, Christmas Decorations, Jams/Chutneys, Ceramics, Manicure Demonstration, and lots more.
Donations are required for the stalls being run by the Social Committee:
Cake & Candy (please let Irene Posket know of your intention to donate home bakes etc. for this stall)
Books, Jigsaws, CDs etc.
Tombola - donations of Bottles, Unwanted Gifts, etc. most welcome
Donations for the Cake & Candy stall should be brought along on the day but other donations can be given to any member of the Social Committee or placed in the boxes in the Clubhouse.
