LIONS REPORTS

Friday 17th February, BBC Lions 10 - El Cid Sabres 0,
On a pleasant sunny afternoon, we played our rained off day from the previous Monday, and what a wonderful day it was, everyone played as I know that they can.

On Rink 1, Rod Warnes, David Browne and Jeff Richards, took the lead on the 4th end and continued to increase their score for the next ten ends winning 26 to 15, well done.

On Rink 5, Richard Chamberlain, Rob Hawker and Fely Croft had a slow start until the 9th end when they managed to draw even, then winning the next 6 ends, came out 21 - 10 winners, again well done.

On Rink 5, Jinty Chamberlain, Annie Jones and Dudley Davies won 10 ends, against a very competitive side, a five and two fours made all the difference, to come out 23 - 15 winners, well done all.

On Rink 8, The Lionesses of Linda Richards, Yvonne Browne and Lynda Warnes were again superior to their opposition, winning 11 ends which included a four, a three and a six to win by 26 - 14, very well done.

On Rink 3, The Challengers of Jenny Hawker, Patty Johnson and David Roberts won 10 ends, including three fours, to come out 24 - 11 winners, another two precious points to maintain top spot. Very well done.

On Rink 2, The Friendly of David Laughton, Terry Quinton and Eric Johnson, again had a very good game, winning 14 ends to win by 25 - 9, excellent, well played.

What a way to finish the season, a clean sweep on all rinks giving us full points and a good shot difference. A supreme effort by all.
This gives the Lions their eighth win in a row in the Northern League. What more could a Captain ask for. Once again thank you all for
an excellent seasons play. Good luck for the next season and keep up the good work.

Monday 6th March, BBC Lions 8 - Bonalba 2
On a bright morning we made the journey to Bonalba, which can be a very difficult place to gain points. Despite an increasingly gusty wind the determined Lions squad battled the elements to come away with an excellent win.

On Rink 5, The Lionesses of Linda Richards, Yvonne Browne and Lynda Warnes had a very comfortable game, winning 15 ends to come out 30 - 5 winners, very well done.

On Rink 6 Annie Jones, Fely Croft and Trevor Neale also had a good day, they won 14 ends to win by 25 - 7, again very well done.

On Rink 7, Rod Warnes, David Browne and Jeff Richards also coasted to a good score, winning 10 ends to come out 22 - 12 winners. Well done.

On Rink 8, Richard Chamberlain, David Roberts and Dudley Davies did not fair so well, only winning on eight ends and losing 13 - 17.

On Rink 4, the Challengers of Jenny Hawker, Rob Hawker and Brian Fenton started off well with a 5 on the 3rd end and winning a further 7 ends, although the opposition came back strongly they held out to win 15 - 13, well done. Another 2 points to keep us in the running for top spot.

On Rink 3, The Friendly of Jinty Chamberlain, Patty Johnson and Eric Johnson won 10 ends, which included three 3´s to come out 16 - 11 winners, well done.

Our last game is at home to El Cid Sabres so another good result should mean the LIONS winning the Northern League once again. Thank you all for your continued good play and one more week of the same should see us home and dry. Good Luck everyone.


Monday 27th February, BBC Lions 6 at home to Javea Green Quartz 4.
On a lovely sunny morning we played against Javea Green Quartz who are breathing down our necks so we knew it would be a tough match.

On Rink 1, Rod Warnes, David Browne and Jeff Richards were up against a strong side who were leading 6 -16 on the 16th end, but when needed the Lions roared back and scored 9 on the last 3 ends, only losing 15 - 17, which gave Lions the shot difference. Well done.

On Rink 6, Annie Jones, Rob Hawker and Trevor Neale had a tough game against very strong opposition, going down 9 - 26.

On Rink 7, Richard Chamberlain, David Roberts and Dudley Davies had a good game steadily scoring on 11 ends to come out 23 - 9 winners, well done.

On Rink 8, The Lionesses of Linda Richards, Yvonne Browne and Lynda Warnes, again were up against a determined team, winning 10 ends to come out worthy winners 16 - 10. Well done.

On Rink 5, The Challengers of Jenny Hawker, Brian Fenton and Peter Collins, had a good steady game winning 9 of the 18 ends but with a 6 on the 2nd end and another three 3's kept ahead to come out worthy 22 - 17 winners, very well done.

On Rink 4, The Friendly of Jinty Chamberlain, Ruth Meadows and Terry Quinton, won 9 ends but the opposition had better scores on their ends,and went down 12 - 18.


Monday 20th February 2017, BBC Lions 8 Finca Guila 2.
On a sunny but windy day the Lions travelled to Finca Guila and had a very good result.

On Rink 2, Jinty Chamberlain, Brian Fenton and Peter Collins had a very tight game, unfortunately losing on the last end, 16 - 18.

On Rink 3, The Lionesses of Linda Richard, Yvonne Brown and Lynda Warnes had a great game, against a strong team coming out 21 - 13 winners, well done.

On Rink 4, Rod Warnes, David Brown and Jeff Richards won 13 ends which included four fours to come out 29 - 6 winners, very well done.

On Rink 6, Annie Jones, Richard Chamberlain and Feli Croft were up again a very strong team but kept focused and with a four on the 17th end came out 17 - 13 winners, a good result.

On Rink 5, The Challengers of David Laughton, Eric Johnson and David Roberts, won nine ends, but were pipped at the post, going down 18 - 19, good try.

On Rink 1, The friendly of Noel Ovenall (thanks for standing in), Ruth Meadows and Terry Quinton, had an excellent game, winning ten ends, including four threes to come out with a well deserved 20 - 12 win. Well done.


Monday 13th February 2017, BBC Lions 8 versus Javea Green Onyx 2
On a very windy morning, (the rain held off, thankfully) we were at home to Javea Green Onyx.

On Rink 4, Annie Jones, Rob Hawker and David Roberts came up against a very strong team it took until the 6th end for them to score, many a time they were holding shot but the opposing skip always managed to come in to either cut it down or get shot, in the end going down 8 - 29.

On Rink 5, Linda Richards, Feli Croft and Lynda Warnes were 12 all on the 12th end, scores went from one side to the other until the 17th end when a wonderful 5 set them up to come out 20 - 19 winners, well done.

On Rink 6, Rod Warnes, David Browne and Jeff Richards, cruised to an excellent win. They won on 13 ends to come out 29 - 7 winners, very well done.

On Rink 8, Jinty Chamberlain, Brian Fenton and Peter Collins won 10 ends including a four and 2 fives, they came out 26 - 10 winners, again, very well done.

On Rink 1, The Challengers of Jenny Hawker, Ruth Meadows, (thanks for standing in) and Richard Chamberlain came up against a veterans team, winning on only eight ends, but keeping a low shot difference of 15 - 18.

On Rink 7, The Friendly of Howard Sawkins, Terry Quinton and Eric Johnson won 10 ends and came out 24 - 18 winners, well done.

Next Monday the 20th February we are away to Finca Guila, hope the weather improves.


Monday 6th February 2017, BBC Lions 8 away to BBC Tigers 2.
On a bright but breezy day we were in opposition to another BBC team, the Tigers.

On Rink 1, Annie Jones, David Roberts and Maggie Lawley (thanks for helping out) after a good start won the first five ends,although the opposition did come back, the Lions held on to come out 15 - 10 winners - well done.

On Rink 2,Jinty Chamberlain, Linda Richards and Lynda Warnes were up against a very strong opposition and lost 7 - 18.

On Rink 4, Rod Warnes David Browne and Jeff Richards cruised to a very good win 27 - 8, very well done.

On Rink 7, Rob Hawker, Tony Lawley (again thanks for helping out) and Peter Collins, were 10 - 7 down on the 9th end but kept coming back to win 6 of the last 8 ends, to win 17 - 16, well done.

On Rink 6, the Challengers of Jenny Hawker, Richard Chamberlain and Brian Fenton started off with a 6, the opposition were kept down to a single shot on 5 of the next 7 ends, in the end coming out 21 - 13 winners. Another good win for the challengers.

On Rink 8, The friendly of David Laughton, Patty Johnson and Eric Johnson won 12 ends to come out 19 - 10 winners, well done.

That was a really good result today against strong opposition.Thank you all very much.

Next week we are at home against Javea Green Onyx.

Monday 30.1.17 BBC Lions 8 v El Cid Swords 2
On a lovely sunny morning we were at home to El Cid Swords.

On Rink 1, Rod Warnes, David Browne and Jeff Richards got away to a good start, leading 13 to 5 on the 8th end, Swords then gradually pulled back but were unable to establish themselves and we came out 18 to 16 winners. Well done.

On Rink 5, Richard Chamberlain, Brian Fenton and Feli Croft came up against a very good side, they almost got back on equal terms on the 14th end 11 - 12 but were unable to score again and finished 11 - 20.

On Rink 7, The Lionessess of Linda Richards, Yvonne Brown and Lynda Warnes were again in great form, scoring quite freely and came out 36 - 7 winners, very well done.

On Rink 8, Annie Jones, David Roberts and Trevor Neale were drawing on the 9th end 8 - 8, then the scores went from one side to the other, but they hung on and came out 18 - 17 winners, well done.

On Rink 6, The Challengers of Jinty Chamberlain, Patty Johnson and Peter Collins continued their winning ways,with a good score of 21-13, another 2 points.

Next Monday we are at home to the BBC Tigers where a similar score will do us the world of good. So good bowling to all.


Thursday 26.1.17 BBC Lions 6 v JG Opals 4
On a bright and sunny day,after the last couple of weeks, a welcome respite, we travelled to Javea Green to play the Opals.

On Rink 2, Annie Jones, Brian Fenton and David Roberts had a slow start, but on the 6th end they drew level, the scores then went from one side to the other, up to the 17th end when it was 18 all, unfortunately they lost by 2. Good try.

On Rink 3, Richard Chamberlain, Eric Johnson and Feli Croft did not have the best of games, were leading 6 - 4 on the 7th end, then lost a five on the 9th and again on the 16 to lose 26 - 13.

On Rink 4, Rod Warnes, David Browne and Jeff Richards had a very good day, coming out winners 25 - 12. Which gave us the score difference and 2 precious points, Very well done.

On Rink 6, The Lionesses of Linda Richards, Yvonne Browne and Lynda Warnes had a tough game drawing 15 all on the 17th end,but came out worthy winners 16 - 15, Very well done.

On Rink 1, Jinty Chamberlain, Patty Johnson and Peter Collins had a really good day leading all the way to come out 23 - 7 winners, well done.
The next game will be at home against El Cid Swords on 30th January 2017.


Monday 5th December 2016 LIONS 4 - BBC Tigers 6
On a cloudy day we came up against a very determined side and did not get the best of results.

On Rink 3, The Lionesses of Linda Richards, Yvonne Browne and Lynda Warnes had a tough fight but kept going, winning 12 ends, although they dropped a 6 on the 15th end they hung on and won the last three ends to come out 20 - 19 winners, very well done ladies.

On Rink 5, Richard Chamberlain, Rob Hawker and Feli Croft did not have the best of games, going down 11 - 25.

On Rink 7, Annie Jones, Brian Fenton and Trevor Neale won 11 ends to come out worthy winners 19 - 14, very well done.

On Rink 8, Rod Warnes, David Brown and Jeff Richards did not have the best of days, not helped by Jeff slipping on the pathway and crashing to the ground, but stoically carried on. Hope there are no after effects Jeff. Although they won eight ends they went down 15 - 23.

On Rink 2, The Challengers of Jinty Chamberlain, Jenny Hawker and Peter Collins won 9 ends coming through as winners 22 - 14.
Very well done, and another 2 points.

On Rink 1, The Friendly of Howard Sawkins, David Laughton, (thanks to both of you for standing in) and Terry Quinton won 11 ends to come out worthy winners 16 - 15. well done.

Monday 28th November 2016 Lions 5 - El Cid Swords 5
We managed to complete our game despite the forecast of rain, which fortunately held off until the last few woods.
It was a very competitive close run match.

On Rink 2, Rod Warnes, Rob Hawker and Feli Croft had a tit for tat match against the opposition, only loosing on the last end 14 -15. Good effort.

On Rink 3, Jinty Chamberlain, Yvonne Browne and Lynda Warnes found themselves 5 - 12 down on the 8th end, then rallied to score on 8 of the remaining 10 ends to come out 18 - 17 winners. 2 hard earned points, well done.

On Rink 4, Annie Jones, Maurice Flynn and Trevor Neale again had a tit for tat game but unfortunately could not find that final 3 on the last end, loosing 17 -18. Well done for limiting the shot difference.

On Rink 6, Richard Chamberlain, David Browne and David Roberts( nice to have you back), found themselves 7 - 13 down on the 14th end, but by winning the next four ends came away 14 - 13 winners. Another 2 good points, well done.

On Rink 5, Jenny Hawker, Barbara Flynn (thanks for standing in at the very last moment),and Peter Collins had a really good game, winning with a positive 28 - 13 score, very well done all of you.

With an even shot difference and winning on 2 rinks we came away with a draw. Well done everybody.
Next week we are at home to the Tigers, so lets go for it!


Thursday 24th November 2016 Lions 2 - JG Quartz 8
On a calm and not too cold a day we were away to JG Quartz, not the best of results.

On Rink 1, Jinty Chamberlain, David Browne and Jeff Richards won the first 10 ends with a score of 20 - 0, the opposition then won four of the remaining 8 ends, we came out 27 - 12 winners, very well done.

On Rink 3, Jenny Hawker, Rob Hawker and Feli Croft, were winning 10 - 6 after picking up a 6 on the 8th end, the opposition then came back strongly. The final score was 14 - 24. Good try.

On Rink 5, Linda Richards, Yvonne Browne and Dudley Davies (again thanks for standing in) had a very tight game the score was 13 - 13 on the 17th end but it was not to be, the final score being 13 - 15, well done, against a very strong team.

On Rink 7, Maurice Flynn, (thanks for standing in), Brian Fenton and Richard Chamberlain, won only 7 ends to a strong opposition, going down 8-26.

On Rink 6, The Challengers of Carol Davies (thanks for standing in), Patty Johnson and Peter Collins won 14 ends and came out with a great score of 35 - 8, excellent, very well done and 2 valuable points.

On Rink 2, The Friendly of Anne Doherty (thank you for stepping in) Howard Sawkins and Eric Johnson won on 8 ends but were unable to hold their opponents, final score 12 - 20.


Monday 14th November.
On a cold and windy morning we were host to Finca Guila, it was not the best of days. Fortunately the rain held off until the last couple of ends, boy did it come down then.

On Rink 2, Richard Chamberlain, David Browne and Jeff Richards were up against a strong team, the score was 9 - 3 on the 6th end, then FG scored a 4 which brought them back into contention, but, with a steady increase in scoring we came out 20 - 12 winners, well done.

On Rink 6, the Lionessess of Linda Richards, Yvonne Browne and Lynda Warnes, were down 1 - 8 on the 7th end, although they worked hard, were unable to keep FG down and lost 7 -24.

On Rink 7, Rod Warnes, Rob Hawker and Feli Croft, again were up against a strong FG team, on the 9th end it was a close score of 6 -7, although they worked hard were unable to stop FG winning 11 - 16

On Rink 8, Annie Jones, Brian Fenton and Trevor Neale were 11 - 13 down on the 11th end, but with a 4 on the 12th and a 5 on the 13th end, cruised home to a 25 - 16 win, again well done.

On Rink 2, The Challengers of Jinty Chamberlain, Janet Neale and Peter Collins had a steady scoring game winning 7 of the first 10 ends. But on the 15th end were held to a 10 all draw, they held their nerve and won the last 3 ends to come out 16 -10 winners, well done.

On Rink 1, The Friendly team of Howard Sawkins, Patty Johnson and Eric Johnson had a tough game against a very strong FG team to lose 6 - 23.

The next game is on Thursday 24th November, away against Javea Green Quartz


Another excellent win for the Lions, with a score of 10 - 0 and with a good shot difference away to Javea Green Onyx.

On Rink 2, Richard Chamberlain, David Browne and Peter Collins lost the first end but came back to win the next 4. They were winning 9 - 8 on the 9th end and continued to build up a lead ending with a score of 18 - 13, very good.

On Rink 3, Annie Jones, Brian Fenton and Jeff Richards (nice to have him back) set a steady pace leading 17 - 6 on the 11th end, Onyx fought back but were never able to catch up, Lions came out 23 - 16 winners, Well done.

On Rink 4, The Lionessess of Linda Richards, Yvonne Browne and Lynda Warnes were once again in winning form, they scored two fours and a five to add to their score of 24 - 9, very well done.

On Rink 6, Rod Warnes, Rob Hawker and Feli Croft played a nip and tuck game up to the 8th end, then powered away to win 21 - 8, excellent bowling, well done.

On Rink 1, The Challengers of Jinty Chamberlain, Jenny Hawker and John Lapthorn were up against a very strong team and lost 13 - 23.

On Rink 7, The Friendly of Howard Sawkins, many thanks for stepping in at the last moment, Patty Johnson and Eric Johnson, were 8 -17 down on the 12th end but fought back making the final score 17 - 22, well done.

Sadly, John and Jane Lapthorn are off to New Zealand at the end of the month, many thanks John for your support to the Lions and we wish you both all the very best.


BBC LIONS V EL CID SABRES - AWAY
On a pleasant, sunny day we had our first visit to El Cid this year.
We came away with a good win of 7 points to 3 and a shot difference of 30.

On Rink 2, Peter Collins, David Browne and Richard Chamberlain were 11 to 0 down after the first 5 ends and never really got back into the game, losing 22 - 8 to a very strong team.

On Rink 3,The Lionessess, Linda Richard, Yvonne Browne and Lynda Warnes got away to a very good start leading 10 to 2 on the 8th end and never looked back, winning 20 to 6, what a good score, very well done.

On Rink 4, Rod Warnes, Rob Hawker and Feli Croft never dropped an end until the 15th when they were winning 32 to 0, finally finishing with a superb 36 to 6, an excellent score, great bowling.

On Rink 5, Annie Jones, Brian Fenton and Trevor Neale were winning 15 to 6 on the 13th end, then the opposition started to pull back strongly, the game ended as a 16 to 16 draw, still a valuable point for the Lions, well done.

On Rink 1, The Challengers of Jenny Hawker, Janet Neale and John Lapthorn won 12 ends to come away with an excellent 22 to 10 win, well done all.

On Rink 6, The Friendly of Jinty Chamberlain, Ruth Meadows and Terry Quinton started with a 6 on the first end, and scored another 6 on the 14th end to come away with an excellent 29 to 10 win, all good practice on an away green. Well Done.

The next match is away to Javea Green Onyx on Monday 7th November.

On Rink 4, Rod Warnes, Ruth Meadows and Feli Croft came up against a very strong opposition side who won 6 of the first 8 ends, although we had a 5 on the 9th end and a 4 on the 14th end, we were unable to capitalise and lost 15 - 23

On Rink 8, Richard Chamberlain, David Browne and Peter Collins again had strong opposition to contend with, although often holding shot, lost to a very determined side 8 - 21.

On Rink 7. The Challengers of Jennifer Bruce (many thanks for standing in at the last moment), Terry Quinton and John Lapthorn came up against a very strong team and unfortunately went down 9 - 29. Not an easy rink to play on.

We always knew the Jaguars were going to be a tough team to take on, so we can only hope for a better result on the return match.

Well what a great day for the Lions, 10 points and 2 for the Challengers

On Rink 2, Linda Richards, Yvonne Browne and Lynda Warnes, our Lionessess, went from strength to strength and never looked back, winning eleven ends to come away with a resounding 18 to 8 shot difference, very well done.

On Rink 3, Richard Chamberlain, David Browne and Peter Collins after a good start, holding 10 to 4 on the 8th end, the opposition then came back strongly to lead by one on the 14th end, but winning 3 of the last 4 ends our team managed to keep the lead to win 20 to 16, Well done.

On Rink 4, Annie Jones, Brian Fenton and Trevor Neale, after a strong start, leading 19 - 4 on the 13th end, then losing the next four ends, winning the last to come away with a creditable 20 - 14 win, well done.

On Rink 7, Rod Warnes, Rob Hawker and Feli Croft, won 12 ends, including a five on the 13th , to have a resounding win with a brilliant score of 27 to 11. Very well done.

On Rink 8, The Challengers of Jenny Hawker, Janet Neale and John Lapthorn won 9 ends overall, starting with a 4 on the first end and were always ahead of the opposition and held on to win by 2 shots. Well done.

On Rink 1, the Friendly of Jinty Chamberlain, Ruth Meadows and Terry Quinton had a nip and tuck game with a final score of 18 - 18.


Today we were away to Calpe, not an easy venue to play. However the weather was kind to us and we enjoyed a competitive morning against the home team.

On Rink 1, the LIONESSES won all but two of the first eleven ends, giving them a 17 - 2 lead. The Calpe team fought back but the ladies came away with a 20 - 12 victory. Well done Linda Richards, Yvonne Browne and Linda Warnes.

On Rink 2, Richard Chamberlain, David Browne and Peter Collins were up against a very strong Calpe team. On the 8th end the score was 5 - 4 to Calpe. After dropping an unfortunate 4 on the next end the rest of the game was nip and tuck, finishing 15 - 11 down.

On Rink 3, Annie Jones, Brian Fenton and Trevor Neale were off to a flying start with a 9 - 1 score on the 9th end. Keeping the pressure on and finishing with a creditable 14 - 8 win.

On Rink 4, Rod Warnes, Rob Hawker and Feli Croft had a very convincing 25 - 15 win. A good game played by all.

Very well done to all the players, the 20 shot difference, giving us the added 2 points for the final score of 8 -2.

On rink 1 Richard, David and Peter were going really well up to the 10th end, winning 20 – 6. Bonalba then got the length and green and managed to catch up, ending the match with a draw.

What can be said, reference the LIONESSES on rink 3, Linda, Yvonne and Lynda, great result, winning 21-9, thank you very much. Keeping up their winning ways.

On rink 4 Jinty, Rob and Feli were running away with it until the 11th end, 18 – 4 up, then Bonalba again started to find the green and pulled back but we still won 18 – 14, well done.

On rink 5 Annie, Brian and Trevor had a nail biting game, going tit for tat all through, but they managed to get a 4 on the 15th and a 3 on the 17th to lead, and held on to the very end, winning 16 – 15, well done.

On rink 6 the Challengers of Jenny (thank you for standing in at last moment) Janet and John, won 12 ends and ended up with a score of 26 – 12. Excellent, well done.

Next game is at Calpe where there will be no Challengers or friendlies.
