JAGUARS REPORTS

BBC JAGUARS v EC SHIELDS - Monday 16th March 2015
A short trip north to our neighbours at El Cid but we didn't travel well! In our final game of the season we had our worst result, suffering our biggest defeat and losing all ten points, 39 - 97.
The Challenger rink also went down by six shots 12 - 18, but there is some good news our Friendly rink of Sally Rush, Steve Griffin & Ron Lucas did us proud with an excellent 26 - 12 victory, well done.
See result sheet for full details.
However let's not be downhearted, we have had a really good season, with some great results.
It looks like we will finish fourth, maybe 5th, in the League, our best place for several years and our Challengers took second place, a more than creditable performance. The squad spirit and commitment has been second to none, you have all rallied round and backed the Jaguars to the hilt and are to be congratulated, thank you.

BBC JAGUARS v CALPE - Monday 9th March 2015
After a beautiful day at the seaside, for our match against Calpe, the Jaguars returned home with a seven points to three win, 70 - 61.
Today's result could not have closer, with two teams playing their 'get out of jail' cards on the final end.
The first of these was from Tim Woodcock, Peter Griffiths & Mick Adams on Rink 1, although they had won four of the first nine ends they were trailing 7 - 14. After fifteen ends they were still seven shots down 13 - 20 but a concerted 4, 3, 4 finish saw them win by four shots, 24 - 20.
The second last end result came from Trevor Rush, Derek Mawson & Iris Gardiner on Rink 3.
This had always been a close game with few shots scored, after eleven ends they were tied on seven shots each. By end seventeen they were four shots behind at 9 - 13 but they picked up four shots in a super last end to draw 13 shots all.
On Rink 2, Richard Gardiner, Carole Nicholas & Harry Chick only conceded three ends in the whole game and ran out with a great 21 - 5 win.
On Rink 4, Christine Mawson, Jack Chamberlain & Alex Fisher found life more difficult playing against Calpe Captain, Stan Walmsley. Trailing by eleven shots, 4 - 15 at nine ends, they had a better second nine ends but were still that eleven shots down at the finish, 12 - 23.
After the game we had a lovely meal with our opponents at the Aguamarina Restaurant, which rounded off a great day.
Well done Jaguars!
Next week sees our final game of the season at EC Shields, with a lot still to play for.
Richard

BBC JAGUARS v JG OPAL - Thursday 5th March 2015
A bright sunny morning, has Spring arrived? Two winning rinks for Jaguars & 2 winning rinks for Opal, the overall shot difference going to Opal by a single shot, 75 - 76. A win, 23 - 18, for the Challengers to maintain their position. The Friendly lost by a single shot, 16 - 17 and our Jags v Jags had an enjoyable morning. Thank you everyone.
A bad start for Lynn Stothard, Derek Mawson & Iris Gardiner on Rink I, 0 - 12 down after five ends. The game then evened out and they won their share of the remaining ends but still finished with that twelve shot deficit, 11 - 23.
Trevor Rush, Carole Nicholas & Chris Barnsby on Rink 2 had a good start and were 9 - 1 ahead after nine ends, having won seven ends. Unfortunately their opponents won the next five ends to leave the Jags team trailing 9 - 13, however, not to be denied, our trio took four of the final five ends to give them a hard earned victory, 21 - 15.
Rink 4, Mal Chamberlain, Richard Gardiner & Harry Chick were on 13 shots each after nine ends and had gone into a seven shot lead by the twelfth end, 20 - 13. They could not hold on, some determined bowling by the Opals team saw them win the final six ends to take the win, 20 - 25
Christine Mawson, Jack Chamberlain & Alex Fisher out by the car park on Rink 8 were 14 - 8 up after nine ends and a strong finish left them with a 23 - 13 score line.
The Challenger team of Tim Woodcock, Peter Griffiths & Mick Adams were on Rink 3, a five on the first end, followed by a four on the next end put them 9 - 0 up. 12 - 2 at seven ends, but two threes and a four saw Opal draw level at 12 - 12 after ten ends. Winning five of the final eight ends our Jaguars went on to win by 23 - 18.
The Friendly of Steve Griffin, Colin Forester & Vivian Erridge were on Rink 6 and lead by 11 - 5 after nine ends. Another stronger finish from Opal team left our team trailing by one shot at the finish, 16 - 17.
Many thanks to Stuart Boud, Mike Harvey & Sally Rush, joined by guests Ron & Sheila Lucas, who played an 'in house game'.
We now have two tough Away games to complete the season and our final league positions are still all to play for!

BBC JAGUARS v FG SWALLOWS - Monday 23rd February 2015
Another good 8 points to 2 win today away from home but disappointment for the Challenger team losing by two shots. See result sheet for full teams.
Trevor Rush, Carole Nicholas & Chris Barnsby on Rink 2 played a strong Swallows triple and were 3 - 14 behind at nine ends having won just two ends. A spirited fight back in the second half saw them win five ends and finish 14 - 21, a good performance.
Rink 3, Steve Griffin, Lynn Stothard & Iris Gardiner had a fairly even first half but were one shot down at nine ends, 8 - 9, winning five of the last nine ends gave them a three shot win, 17 - 14.
Rink 4, Christine Mawson, Jack Chamberlain & Alex Fisher scored 17 shots without reply by the ninth end but the opposition fought back strongly taking seven of the final nine ends. The Jaguars trio had done enough to secure the points and won 20 - 12.
On Rink 5, Tim Woodcock, Richard Gardiner & Mick Adams won five ends to be 9 - 5 ahead after nine ends and won another six ends to finish with a 19 - 12 score line.
On Rink 6, Mal Chamberlain, Peter Griffiths & Harry Chick had another close game, 6 - 9 down at nine ends but a good fight back put them 18 - 14 ahead at fifteen ends. The Jaguars team were lying game on the eighteenth end with one bowl to come from their opponents, but their Skip (who had been called in at the last minute and playing his first game of the season for Swallows) played a heavy bowl to remove our shot bowl to lie four and we lost by two shots, 18 - 20, hard luck.
Richard

BBC JAGUARS v JG QUARTZ - Thursday 19th February 2015
A good result for the Jaguars today winning 8 - 2, 71 shots to 52, this lifts us up to 4th place in the table. Unfortunately the Challengers lost by a single shot 14 - 15, but remain top of their table by one point. A good game for the Friendly, playing on the difficult Rink 7, winning by 21 - 12.
Lynn Stothard, Derek Mawson & Iris Gardiner played Chris Brackstone, Gary Kent & Bill Barrie on Rink 1 and took six of the first nine ends to lead by 8 - 4. The home team fought back and drew level on the thirteenth end, 9 shots all. It was still all square, 13 shots each, after the sixteenth end but a 4 & a 1 on the final two ends gave the Jaguars team a win by five shots, 18 - 13.
On Rink 2, Mal Chamberlain, Vivian Erridge & Harry Chick versus Jenny Rich, Tony Metcalfe & Clive Pearl were 7 - 14 down at nine ends, having won only three ends, including a five. But by taking six of the last nine ends, mostly singles, came back to lose by just four shots, 15 - 19.
On Rink 5, Tim Woodcock, Richard Gardiner & Mick Adams played Brenda Burgess, John Pittaway & Ken Davey and took an eleven shot lead by the ninth end, 13 - 2, having lost only two ends. A more even second half saw the Jaguars win by ten shots, 19 - 9.
Christine Mawson, Jack Chamberlain & Alex Fisher were against Pat Pittaway, Pat Metcalfe & Sue Kent on Rink 6. An even first nine ends saw the scores level at 6 shots apiece, but a strong finish over the final nine ends gave them a hard earned 19 - 11 win.
The Challengers, Trevor Rush, Carole Nicholas & Chris Barnsby on Rink 4 played Dave Missons, Bob Morris & Brian Taylor and had a very even game. It was 7 all after nine ends, then our team went into a four shot lead after the fourteenth end but a dropped four on the next end saw the scores level again, 13 all. Three singles were scored on the last three ends, but two were by Quartz giving them the win by one shot, 14 - 15.
Our Friendly team of Steve Griffin, John Ranger & Colin Forester played on the difficult Rink 7 against Kirsty Stewart, Maureen Barrie & Pauline Bishop but managed a fine win by 21 - 12.
On the whole a good week for the Jaguars, the first win over JG Quartz for over three years, admittedly to a team weakened by illness, but well done!
We just need to keep going over the final four games of the season to maintain or improve our position in the tables.
Richard

BBC JAGUARS v EC SWORDS - Monday 9th February 2015
The forecasted rain never appeared and we enjoyed a dry but sometimes chilly mornings bowling.
A good 8 - 2 win today, 82 - 58, only losing the other game on the final end.
Our Challengers came out on top in the battle for first place with a super 18 - 14 win to remain 'Top of the Challenger League'. Thanks also for the support of our 'Friendly' players.
Rink 1, Mal Chamberlain, Vivian Erridge & Harry Chick played Jean McLaughlin, Clive Scott & Stuart Branch, a game which went into the last end all square 18 - 18. The Jaguars had started slowly but by end nine led 11 - 9, fairly even over the next eight ends. On the final end Harry 'fired' off the opposing shot with his first bowl but was still down, with his final bowl he touched the jack only to see it run to a Swords bowl and they lost by two, 18 - 20.
Rink 2, Christine Mawson, Jack Chamberlain & Alex Fisher were against Peter Whitbread, Bob Prince & Mo Coulson, they were always in control of a game in which they only lost six ends. 14 - 8 ahead after nine ends and closing the game on 22 - 14.
On Rink 3, Tim Woodcock, Richard Gardiner & Mick Adams (nice to see you back) playing Alan Guest, Christine Prince & John Olliffe were 14 - 3 ahead after ten ends but a stutter on the next three ends saw the opposition close the gap by end thirteen to two shots, 14 - 12. The Jaguars went on to win, 21 - 12 without losing another end, a game in which they only lost five ends.
Rink 4, another good performance from the team of Lynn Stothard, Derek Mawson & Iris Gardiner versus Jack Coburn, Alan Jackson & Margaret Gill, they were 10 - 5 ahead at nine ends. By end fifteen their opponents were within two shots, 14 - 12, but a solid last three ends, 2, 2 and 3 gave them a nice win by 21 - 12.
The Challengers, Trevor Rush, Carole Nicholas & Chris Barnsby on Rink 8 were up against Ann Eslick, Tony Barratt & Jill Glastonbury in a match where the winning team would top the table.
The Jaguars team led by 9 - 4 after nine ends only having lost three ends, they took five of the last nine ends to take the game by 18 - 14 and in doing so remain in 'Top Spot', keep it up!
In an 'in house' Friendly, Sally Rush & Colin Forester just pipped Pam Coombe & Steve Griffin by 15 - 12, thanks for your support for the Jaguars side.
With this result we move into fifth place in the Northern League, with a game in hand over some of the teams above us. There only five matches to go so let's push for the results to at least maintain our place. Next week we are Away to JG Quartz on Thursday 19th February.
Richard

BBC JAGUARS v BONALBA - Monday 2nd February 2015
The game started in cold, overcast, blustery conditions, not great for either team, however the weather did improve towards the end of the game. We shared the points 5 each, with our 'Jaguaress's' having a good win, another rink drawing and two rinks only just losing, taking the overall shot difference by four shots, score 61 - 57. Another win for our Challenger team.
See Result Sheet for full teams.
A great performance from our 'Jaguaress's' rink of Sally Rush, in her debut game for the Main Team, Lynn Stothard & Iris Gardiner, playing on Rink 8. Winning by eleven shots, 20 - 9, was enough to cancel out the two losing rinks and secure the overall win and the two extra points. Playing Eve & Roli Bell with Seamus Barry the game was tied at 6 shots apiece after nine ends, the 'girls' then stormed away only losing two of the final nine ends for a good win.
On Rink 7, Tim Woodcock, Richard Gardiner & Peter Griffiths (who was feeling well below par, but thanks for playing) met Geoff Dowson, Chris & Denis Wright. A close game all the way through, 5 all at five ends, 12 all at 11 ends, 14 all at fifteen ends and 15 all at seventeen ends. A difficult last end saw the Jaguars drop a three and go down by 15 - 18.
Steve Griffin, Jack Chamberlain & Alex Fisher (welcome back) played Ray Lyons, Sue Elvin & Doug Brown on Rink 5. A real game of two halves in a low scoring game, the Jaguars taking eight of the first nine ends to lead by 10 - 2. In the second half it was Bonalba who won eight ends resulting in a nail biting draw, 11 - 11.
Rink 4, Mal Chamberlain, Colin Forester & Vivian Erridge played Terry Allsopp, Judy Branson & Norman Burgess. Ten shots behind at nine ends, 3 - 13, a spirited fight back in the second half, including a six on the thirteenth end saw them come back to just four shots behind at the end, 15 - 19.
Challengers Trevor Rush, Carole Nicholas & Chris Barnsby on Rink 6 were up against John Branson, Peter Harris & Graham Mills. The team built up a good lead by the ninth end, 11 - 3 only to see Bonalba fight back to within one shot by the fifteenth end, 13 - 12. A great finish winning the final three ends saw them with a solid 21 - 12 win.
Another good team performance away from home taking five of the ten points available, it could easily have been more but Bonalba are never to be underrated on their own green.
Next Monday home to EC Swords sees a 'Top of the Table' match for the Challengers, 'let's be up for it'.
Richard

BBC JAGUARS v JG Onyx - Thursday 29th January 2015
In our second game this week we travelled the short distance to play a rearranged game against JG Onyx, a glorious afternoon saw the Jaguars in fine form taking 8 of the 10 points on offer, 74 - 50.
The Challengers also came away with a good win 18 - 10. The Friendly had tough opposition and lost 11 - 23. See Result Sheet for full teams.
Lynn Stothard, Derek Mawson & Iris Gardiner were on Rink 1 and by winning six of the first nine ends led by 14 - 7, they continued in the same way by winning six of the second nine ends to record a good 23 - 10 shots win.
On Rink 2, Christine Mawson, Steve Griffin & Jack Chamberlain had a very tight game all the way through, leading 9 - 7 after nine ends, they just could not quite shake off the opposition and finished two shots behind, 15 - 17, a great effort.
Rink 5, Mal Chamberlain, Vivian Erridge & Harry Chick once again got off to a fantastic start and were 14 - 4 ahead at nine ends, a more even second half saw them run out 19 - 11 winners.
On Rink 6, Tim Woodcock, Richard Gardiner & Peter Griffiths also started well, 10 - 4 ahead at nine ends. A spirited fight back by their opponents put them only two shots behind on the seventeenth end, 14 - 12, but a three on the final end secured the two points for the Jaguars, 17 - 12.
Challengers Trevor Rush, Carole Nicholas & Chris Barnsby on Rink 4, had an even first nine, just one shot behind at 7 - 8, but a strong second nine, where they only lost two ends, gave them a great 18 - 10 win. Nice to see them back to winning form!
Our Friendly team, Jackie Munt, Sally Rush & Colin Forester (only just back from the Antipodes) on Rink 3, faced a vastly more experienced side but were only just behind at nine ends 8 - 14. They could only manage three singles in the second half and finished 11 - 23.
A solid team performance away from home, well done everyone.
Richard

BBC JAGUARS v FG Swifts - Monday 26th January 2015
Another fine day, BBC Jaguars home to FG Swifts, with each side winning on two rinks, however the home side took the extra two points with the overall shots, 77 - 55, 6 - 4 points. Unfortunately the Challengers went down 6 - 28 to a strong Swifts Triple. The Friendly team also had a great game and a win.
See Result Sheet for full teams.
Big wins today for two rinks, (each only dropping six ends), gave us the shots needed to take the overall win.
On Rink 3, Mal Chamberlain, Vivian Erridge & Harry Chick were 8 - 4 ahead after nine ends but good scoring in the second half saw a final score of 26 - 9.
Lynn Stothard, Derek Mawson & Iris Gardiner were on Rink 2 and were also four shots ahead at nine ends, 11 - 7. Another good last nine ends resulted in a 24 - 9 win.
Tim Woodcock, Richard Gardiner & Peter Griffiths on Rink 4, got off to a slow start and were 2 - 11 down at nine ends, not many shots but few for the Jaguars. Another three singles for the Swifts took them to 2 - 14 after twelve ends. The Jaguars then picked up ten shots in four ends to be only two shots down but could not quite make it and finished 14 - 17.
On Rink 1, Christine Mawson, Steve Griffin (a late substitute) & Jack Chamberlain had a tough draw but had a good game winning nine ends each, 7 - 9 at nine ends, with the final score 13 - 20.
Challengers Jackie Munt, Carole Nicholas & Chris Barnsby on Rink 8 found it a struggle against an in form Swifts team, 3 - 11 at nine ends and 6 - 28 at the close.
Sally & Trevor Rush played a Friendly against a Swifts triple and had a good morning running out 16 - 7 winners.
Richard

BBC JAGUARS v BBC LIONS - Monday 12th January 2015
Another beautiful morning with the Jaguars playing host to the Lions, two wins each with the Lions taking the overall shot difference by just four shots, 66 - 70, 4 - 6 points.
The Challengers went down by two shots, 13 - 15.
See Result Sheet for full teams.
On Rink 1, Tim Woodcock, Richard Gardiner & Peter Griffiths were up against the Lionesses' and came off second best. Eight shots to twelve after nine ends, they moved to within one shot, 12 - 13 on the thirteenth end but the Lions team stepped up a gear and ran out worthy winners, 13 - 23.
On Rink 2, Christine Mawson, Jack Chamberlain & Alex Fisher played the 'in form' Jeff Richards team. Some terrific bowling from all concerned with 'great heads' but the Jaguars found it difficult to score and were 4 - 17 behind after nine ends and fell further behind by the twelfth end, 4 - 26.
Winning the final six ends they pulled back to 12 - 26, a score which belied how well the Jaguars team played.
Rink 3, Mal Chamberlain, Vivian Erridge & Harry Chick got off to a flying start and were 14 - 5 ahead by the ninth end, they continued to win more ends and finished with a good 24 - 9 victory.
John Ranger, Derek Mawson & Iris Gardiner were on Rink 4 and also started well, 13 - 4 ahead after nine ends. A more even second half, with a late rally by the Lions team saw the match finish with the second Jaguars win, 17 - 12.
Our Challengers over on Rink 8, Trevor Rush, Veronica Petty & Carole Nicholas started slowly and were, 4 - 9 down at nine ends. A score of 3, 2, 3 on the next three ends saw them take the lead, 12 - 9, but the Lions were not to be denied with the final score being 13 - 15.
It was great to see six Jaguars joining us and playing their own Friendly. Len Petty, Sally Rush & Steve Griffin played Doreen Walton, Pam Coombe & Mike Harvey. Steve's team took a big first half lead, 15 - 3 after nine ends. By the twelfth, Mike's team had pulled back eleven shots (including an eight on one end) to be only one behind, 15 - 14. Winning four of the last six ends gave Steve's team the win by 24 - 17.
Richard

BBC JAGUARS v BBC TIGERS - Monday 5th January 2015
A beautiful sunny morning for our first game in the New Year. With the Tigers putting out their strongest team this season, the result did not put a smile on our faces, Jaguars losing on shots 59 - 90 and points 2 - 8, with the Challengers also losing 14 - 27.
The one bright spot was the winning team of Tim Woodcock, Richard Gardiner & Peter Griffiths. With the game at 6 all after six ends the Tigers team, Linda Smith, Bert McLean & Mike Smith, took three singles on the next three ends. The Jaguars replied with a two and two fours to lead 16 - 9 at twelve ends, three singles by the Tigers followed by two twos & a single by the Jaguars closed the game at 21 - 12, our only two points.
Christine Mawson, Derek Mawson & Iris Gardiner played Malcolm Sprawson, Mary & Bob Cockell on Rink 2, a game where the Tigers were always in control, 13 - 36.
Rink 5, Pam Coombe, Vivian Erridge & Harry Chick played Mike Parry, Sheila & Terry Corner, 8 - 17 behind at nine ends, they finished 15 - 27.
On Rink 7, Jackie Munt, Jack Chamberlain & Alex Fisher were drawn against Ed Teal, Bob Bailey & Hazel Duke. A game where not many shots were scored, 6 - 10 at nine ends and 10 - 15 at the close.
The Challengers, Mal Chamberlain, Carole Nicholas & Veronica Petty got off to a great start and were ahead 10 - 5 after nine ends, a stronger finish by the Tigers, Margaret Bailey, Trefor Evans & Bob Tranter, who won seven of the last nine ends and took the points, (14 - 27).
Our other bright spot came from the Friendly team of Len Petty, Steve Griffin & John Ranger who had a good win, 20 - 6, over Peter Hagart, Frances Pont & Eddie Ansell.
Another all BBC game next week against the Lions, let's make our Home advantage count!
Richard

BBC JAGUARS v EC SHIELDS - Monday 15th December 2014
Heavy overnight and early morning rain meant that a 10.00 am start was impossible but after a magnificent effort by the team we managed to commence play at 1.00. Unfortunately our earlier efforts were not to the Jaguars advantage and we lost by 58 - 84 shots, 2 - 8 on points. The Challengers also suffered their first defeat, going down by a single shot 22 - 23.
On Rink 1, Trevor Rush, making his Northern League match debut, along with Christine Mawson & Harry Chick played Ros Dingle, Alan Ferrand & Adrian Lambert. A very slow start left them trailing by 4 - 17 after nine ends, but in winning seven of the last nine ends, they pulled back to lose by just five shots 15 - 20.
Lynn Stothard, Richard Gardiner & Peter Griffiths were on Rink 2 against Paul Trunchion, Anita Randall & David Bluff. Only three shots in it after nine ends 5 - 8 and the same three shot difference at seventeen ends 13 - 16. Chasing a result they dropped a four on the final end to lose by seven, 13 - 20.
Rink 3 saw Tim Woodcock, Jack Chamberlain & Alex Fisher playing the very experienced triple of Lynn & Derek Eldon with Yvonne Briden at two. Good bowling produced a close game and the lads were 10 - 5 ahead at nine ends, continuing to bowl well they came away with a great 20 - 12 win, taking the only two points for the Jaguars.
Steve Griffin, a late substitute and our second debutant of the day, Derek Mawson & Iris Gardiner also played an experienced Shields triple, Ian & Hazel Brown with Derek Randall, they played on Rink 4, which was the wettest. Not a good day for our team, 4 - 14 at nine ends, finishing on 10 - 32. As Iris commented everything that could go wrong did so.
To complete our 'bad day at the office' the Challengers, Mal Chamberlain, Veronica Petty & Chris Barnsby against Stewart Beattie, Tony Carroll & Barbara Bluff suffered their first defeat of the season. 14 - 5 ahead at nine ends and 19 - 6 up after twelve, a catastrophic run over the next five ends (two singles, a four, a five & a six) saw them go behind for the first time in the game. Despite picking up a three on the final end of the game they finished one shot down, 22 - 23.
So we come to the end of the first half of the season holding onto fourth place in the Northern League, on level games played, and the Challengers still lead their section. A great team performance which we need to continue in the New Year to maintain or improve our position.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas & a Healthy & Happy New Year.
Thank you, Richard.

BBC JAGUARS v CALPE - Monday 8th December 2014
If there was a 'Man of the Match' or a 'Shot of the Game' award it would have gone to Peter Griffiths today! Playing the final end of their game the whole match was finely balanced. All of the other rinks had finished with Calpe holding the advantage by two shots, 61 - 63.
Lynn Stothard, Richard Gardiner & Peter playing on Rink 4 against Geoff Pack, Paul Brown & Alistair Hepburn (a former Jaguar!) moved into a ten shot lead by the ninth end, 15 - 5 and were still ten shots ahead after the seventeenth end, 21 - 11. After the 'front two' had bowled their final end, Jaguars were holding three shots which would have been enough to win the match but Alistair had other ideas and with his second bowl drew the shot. The team realised that the overall shot difference was now in favour of Calpe and the 'shot bowl' had to go. With his final bowl Peter played a weighted shot, on his 'unfavoured forehand', to take out the shot bowl and nudged the jack slightly to leave Jaguars holding five, (Alistair just ran through with his final bowl), giving them a 26 - 11 score line and the Jaguars overall victory by three shots, 66 - 63 and an 8 - 2 points win.
On Rink 1, the new combination of Tim Woodcock, Jack Chamberlain & Alex Fisher faced Barry Stephens, Ray Collom & Stan Walmsley. A tight game at nine ends, 8 - 7 to the Jaguars, but a five on the eleventh end, coupled with a three on the thirteenth gave them the edge and they finished 19 - 12.
Rink 2, Christine Mawson, Derek Mawson & Iris Gardiner played Ernie Ritchie, Liz Griffiths & Alan Steed. Three singles and two fours put them 11 - 4 ahead at nine ends, they won four of the last nine ends and finished with a five shot win, 17 - 12.
On Rink 5, Mal Chamberlain, Carole Nicholas & Chris Barnsby played the very experienced team of Terry Street, Tony & Kate Sayers. Our team never got to grips with the rink or opposition, winning only three ends, they lost out by 4 - 28.
In the two Friendlies, Sally & Trevor Rush with Harry Chick had a comfortable 27 - 12 win and Steve Griffin, John Ranger & Veronica Petty ran out with a good win, 18 - 11.
All in all a good afternoons bowling, in pleasant conditions, and a very satisfactory result for the BBC Jaguars against a Calpe side who are always tough opponents.
Richard

BBC JAGUARS v JG OPAL - Monday 1st December 2014
After the heavy rain of yesterday it was great that we managed to play the game in fine weather. There was quite a lot of water on the green at the beginning of the game, which made for heavy bowling. A good Away result for the Jaguars 78 - 67, 6 points to 4. The Challengers continued their unbeaten run with another win by 18 - 11. Our two Friendly rinks enjoyed the experience of bowling away from home but came a very good second.
Our Challenger team on Rink 1, Mal Chamberlain, Carole Nicholas & Chris Barnsby, playing Steve Lilley, Dick Baron & Louis Symonds, continued their winning ways. Although they only won four of the first nine ends, good shot counts saw them ahead by 9 - 7. With five of the last nine ends, again with good shot counts, they stormed to a super 18 - 11 win and are still undefeated.
Jackie Munt, Mick Adams & Alex Fisher against Tony Lloyd, Halina & Paul Leeder on Rink 2 won six of the first nine ends with big shot counts and were well ahead 21 - 3. They continued to dominate the game winning another six ends to close the game 32 - 12.
On Rink 3, Lynn Stothard, Richard Gardiner & Peter Griffiths, playing Wendy Symonds, Peter Mills & Brian Walker again got off to a good start and were 10 - 4 up after nine ends. They were 15 - 8 ahead after twelve ends but lost the game by a single shot, 15 - 16 after failing to win any of the final six ends.
Christine Mawson, Derek Mawson & Iris Gardiner played Yvonne Carvath, Ken Varney & Felicity Jenkins on Rink 6 and had a slow start, they were 5 - 10 down after nine ends but with a 2 and two 4's on the next three ends leapt into a 15 - 10 lead. Opal won the next three ends to level the game at 15 - 15 at fifteen ends. Some determined bowling from the Jaguars, with other teams who had finished watching and applauding from the bank, saw them take the last three ends for a magnificent 21 - 15 win.
Tim Woodcock, only playing in his second Away game, Stuart Boud & Jack Chamberlain played the very experienced team of Matt Taylor, David Carvath & John Coates on the difficult roadside Rink 7. Down 4 - 15 at nine ends, after winning only two ends, they kept plugging away and managed to win four of the last nine ends finishing 10 - 24.
In the Friendlies, Sally Rush, Steve Griffin & John Ranger were on Rink 4, playing Pat & David Poole with Barry Elms. It was always a struggle and they finished 7 - 28.
Pam Coombe, Trevor Rush & Veronica Petty, against David Moon, Joe Schulein & Ann Moon on Rink 5 started well and were 9 - 8 ahead at nine ends. Only winning one more end they ended with a score line of 11 - 24.
JG Opal are second in both the Northern League and Challenger tables, having played one more game than us, so today's result closes the gap in the Northern League and consolidates our position at the top of the Challenger table. Well done!
Richard

BBC JAGUARS v FG SWALLOWS - Monday 24th November 2014
The rain that was forecast never appeared and we enjoyed a pleasant mornings bowling, with sunshine, against FG Swallows. A super 8 - 2 points win with a +27 shot difference (94 - 67).
Our Challengers remain unbeaten with a determined 20 - 10 win. We also played a Jaguars v Jaguars Friendly, where there was some good bowling and everyone enjoyed themselves.
On Rink 2, Lynn Stothard, Richard Gardiner & Peter Griffiths, playing Roland Shirley, Mike Reynolds & Frank Myers, won six of the first nine ends and were ahead 16 - 5, closing out the game winning seven of the last nine ends they were never in trouble and cruised to a 41 - 9 win.
On Rink 3, Christine Mawson, Derek Mawson & Iris Gardiner played Neville Hunt, David Crane & Jeannie Smith. Winning five of the first nine ends saw them 13 - 6 ahead, a strong fight back by Swallows over the next six ends put them two shots behind on 17 - 15. Iris's team were not to be denied and won two of the last three ends with two doubles and finished on 21 - 16.
Rink 4, Jackie Munt, Veronica Petty & Mick Adams played Alex Cluness, Fred Simpson & Tony Cummings. Although they only won three of the first nine ends, including a five on the ninth, they were just three shots down on 8 - 11. Four winning ends by Swallows saw them go 8 - 17 up, in many games the team would have crumbled, but our Jaguars, skipped by Mick Adams, held their nerve and won the last five ends, including a four on the last end, to snatch victory by a single point, 18 - 17. A magnificent effort, well done.
Rink 5 saw Pam Coombe, John Ranger & Jack Chamberlain playing Tony McCarthy, Lyne Wood & Mary Cummings. After six ends they were 8 - 2 ahead but bad seventh (-6) and eighth (-5) end put them 9 - 13 down by the ninth, having won six ends. Losing five of the last nine ends, including a -4 & two -3's they finished eleven shots behind (14 - 25).
The Challenger team on Rink 8, Mal Chamberlain, Carole Nicholas & Chris Barnsby played Mamie Cluness, Maureen & Brian Welch. A steady game, leading 8 - 5 after nine ends, they moved into a different gear and won six of the last nine ends to give them a great 20 - 10 win against strong opposition. With 15 points out of a possible 16, the Challenger team - Mal, Veronica, Carole & Chris, head the League, keep going.
We also had a Jaguars v Jaguars Friendly on Rink 1. Sally Rush, Steve Griffin & Stuart Boud were against Len Petty, Tim Woodcock & Trevor Rush. Some good bowling by all concerned, with a final result of 26 - 19 to Stuart's team.

BBC JAGUARS v JG QUARTZ - Monday 17th November 2014
Another bright but sometimes blustery day saw us playing JG Quartz, who were just one point above us in the table having played one more game. It was not to be our day as we lost by 11 shots,
57 - 68 and 2 - 8 on points. The only saving grace was by our Challenger rink who continued their unbeaten run with a hard fought 18 - 15 win. Both our Friendly teams also lost out.
On Rink 1, Christine Mawson, Derek Mawson & Iris Gardiner played Pat Pittaway, Sue Kent & Pat Metcalfe. Winning five of the first nine ends they led by 8 shots to 5, still very tight after fifteen ends 11 - 9. A great finish with two singles and a five on the last end produced the only two points of the day for the Jaguars, final score 18 - 9.
On Rink 2, Jackie Munt, Mick Adams & Alex Fisher were drawn against Brenda Burgess, John Pittaway & Ken Davey, this was always going to be a tough match. By fourteen ends only fifteen shots had been scored, with Jaguars 8 - 7 in front. Unfortunately Quartz finished the stronger team, winning the last four ends with a 3, 2, 1 & 4, final score 8 - 17.
Rink 3 saw Pam Coombe, Richard Gardiner & Jack Chamberlain playing Bill Barrie, Brian Taylor & Clive Pearl, a good start put them 6 - 0 up after three ends but two 4's against on the next two ends saw them 6 - 8 down. Winning the next two ends with a 1 & 2 put them in front again but a disastrous dropped 8 on the eighth end, a single on the next end and a 5 against on the tenth end put them thirteen shots behind on 9 - 22. Despite a spirited fight back, winning seven of the last eight ends, they could not claw their way back and lost by 20 - 24. Having lost only six ends in the game a disappointing result.
On Rink 5, Lynn Stothard, Colin Forester & Peter Griffiths played Shirley & Bryan Payne with Gary Kent at 2. Winning five of the first nine ends they were four shots behind, 7 - 11, thanks to a dropped five on the first end and a four on the seventh. Only managing to win three of the last nine ends they finished 11 - 18.
The brightest story of the morning was provided by the Challenger team on Rink 6, Mal Chamberlain, Carole Nicholas & Chris Barnsby played Jenny Rich, Doug Bacon & Tony Metcalfe.
In Chris's words "A very hard game", 0 - 6 down after four ends, they dug in and were 10 - 9 up by the tenth end, sharing the last eight ends but with superior scoring they ran out 18 - 15 winners and remain undefeated at the "top of the table". Well done!
The Friendly team of Doreen Walton, Tim Woodcock & John Ranger found the going tough on Rink 7 and lost by 6 - 31. Len Petty, Steve Griffin & Veronica Petty fared a little better on Rink 8 and finished 13 - 20.
A disappointing day, after some good recent performances, when we should have picked up more points but a result that we need to put behind us and move on to next weeks match against FG Swallows.

BBC JAGUARS V EC SWORDS - Monday 10th November 2014
The short trip North to El Cid Swords today saw us with another great 8 - 2 win away from Home, 78 shots to 67. Our Challengers continue their unbeaten run with a sound 15 - 10 win to remain top of the table, the Friendly just missed out, going down 15 - 21.
On Rink 2, Lynn Stothard, Colin Forester & Peter Griffiths won five of the first nine ends but they were 5 shots to 8 down. Still three shots behind on the 13th end (9 - 12), they picked a single, a four and a single to go ahead 15 - 12 by the sixteenth end, finishing four shots ahead after the final end (17 - 13).
On Rink 3, Tim Woodcock, making his debut League game (an 8.00 am replacement for the injured Christine Mawson), Derek Mawson & Iris Gardiner also won five of the first nine ends but were four shots behind, 6 - 10. Still three shots behind after the fifteenth end at 10 - 13, a three, two, three finish gave them a hard earned five shot victory, 18 - 13.
Rink 5, Pam Coombe, Richard Gardiner & Jack Chamberlain got away to a flying start and were 12 - 1 up after six ends. By the thirteenth end they had been pegged back and were only three shots ahead on 14 - 11. A three & a five on the next two ends gave them an eleven shot cushion against a strong finishing EC Swords team who picked up eight shots over the final three ends, 22 - 19.
In the shade, on Rink 6, Jackie Munt, Mick Adams & Alex Fisher found themselves 7 - 15 down at nine ends, a dropped six on the seventh didn't help. A run of six winning ends put them 20 - 15 up after fifteen ends, a four against on the sixteenth saw them only one shot ahead with two ends to play. A single on the seventeenth but a three against on the last end saw them lose by the narrowest of margins, 21 - 22.
Our Challenger team on Rink 4, Mal Chamberlain, Carole Nicholas & Chris Barnsby, produced another winning performance in a very tight game. They always had the edge, 7 - 4 up at nine ends,
13 - 8 at fifteen ends, closing the game 15 - 10.
On Rink 1, the Friendly team of Sally & Trevor Rush with Vivian Erridge found life difficult and only won two of the first nine ends, 5 - 11, they managed to win five of the last nine ends but were still six shots adrift, 15 - 21.
A strong team performance from everyone today produced a good result. Well done!
EC Swords Captain, Stuart Branch, sends grateful thanks to all Jaguars for their monetary contributions amounting to €50 today, he is growing his 'whiskers', collecting for Prostate cancer and has raised about €200 so far, he hopes to raise about €400.

BBC JAGUARS v FG SWIFTS - Monday 27th October 2014
Our first 'real' Away game took us down the AP7 to FG Swifts. A great mornings bowling by everyone gave us an 8 - 2 victory, 69 - 57 shots. The Challengers are still undefeated picking up the 2 points and a 21 - 12 shots win. We also managed to win the Friendly Rink 19 - 14.

John Ranger, Jack Chamberlain & Mick Adams were always behind, 4 - 11 at nine ends, only winning three ends. A better performance in the second half, including a five on the last end, saw them come back to lose by just five shots, 13 - 18.
Christine & Derek Mawson with Vivian Erridge were just ahead 9 - 7 after nine ends, but some good scoring over the final nine ends gave them a well deserved 20 - 13 win.
A late change in our Challenger rink saw Carole Nicholas, substituting for Veronica Petty (who was unavailable, get well soon), playing with Mal Chamberlain & Chris Barnsby (Skip). A great start gave them a 14 - 5 lead after nine ends, which they maintained until the end, finishing 21 - 12.
The Friendly rink of Pam Coombe, Richard Gardiner & Stuart Boud had a tight game on the notorious Rink 1, 11 - 8 at nine ends, but some good shot counts on the 16th & 18th ends put them 19 - 14 ahead by the end of the game.
Well done everyone.

2/10/14 Jaguars v Tigers

It was a disappointing start to the season with the Jaguars going down by 8 point to 2. The games themselves where very close matches with some very good quality bowling from both sides.
Rink 1 had to make a late change as Richard Gardiner the Jaguars captain was ill and Lynn Stothard was drafted in at the last minute and was joined by Jack Chamberlain playing lead and Peter Griffiths at Skip. All went well for the first nine ends then they dropped a six on the tenth never recovering to finally going down12 - 18.
Rink 2 had Jackie Munt playing her very first League game along with Iris Gardiner and the experience of Alex Fisher had a close first half leading 9-8 after nine ends. They had a steady back nine and came out with our only win of the day by 18 - 11.
Ring 3 Christine and Derek Mawson along with Vivian Erridge Had a very close game against a strong Tigers team and went down By 11 - 15.
Rink 6 saw the team of John Ranger, Len Petty and Mick Adams after being12 - 19 down on the 14th end made a fight back but finally lost 20 - 23.
The Jaguars Challengers League team of Mal Chamberlain,Veronica Petty skipped by Chris Barnsby after being held 7- 7 by the 8th end pulled away and finished off with a very comfortable win of 25 - 10.
Jaguars v Tigers friendly was an all new bowlers match and after a very even game of winning nine ends each the Tigers took the game by 20 shots to 16.
on the final rink we gave games to two new bowlers Steve Griffin and Tim Woodcock who had the experience of playing along side Brian and Jean Winfield, Heike Ives and Carole Nicholas with Tim Heike andBrian coming out 23 to 19 winners.
