Friendship Cups 2015

Thursday 3rd December saw Calpe visiting BBC for the first leg of the annual Friendship Cup challenge this is the longest running Friendship Cup between any of the Costa Blanca north clubs. Each club fielded four rinks for an excellent morning of bowling in perfect weather conditions.

On rink 1 Richard Chamberlain with Jinty Chamberlain, Rebecca Langan and Bob Tranter built up an early lead with a 5 on the 7th end to consolidate their position running out 20 – 12 winners. Rink 2 had Captain of the Day Peter Griffiths well supported by Edward Teal, Annie Jones and Rob Hawker winning on 12 ends with a 6, a 5 and four 4’s to boost BBC’s shot difference with a 37 – 8 win. Rink 3 lead by Dudley Davies with Carol Davies, Jenny Hawker and Brian Fenton got away to a flyer with a 6 on the 5th end which they repeated on the 10th to post a comfortable 22 – 15 win. Hazel Duke with Peter Hagart, Carole Nicholas and Maureen How didn’t score until the 5th end and were trailing 2 – 14 at the half way stage. Then a fight back with a flurry of good ends, including a 5 and a 4 only to go down 18 -23.

So, the overall score of 97 – 58, a shot difference of 39 puts BBC in a strong position for the away leg on 21st January next year.

BBC entertained Calpe at home on 15 th January for the second leg of the Friendship Cup game.

The home side won on three of the four rinks with a shot difference of 71 to 51 - unfortunately this was not enough to overturn the 30 shot deficit from the away leg, BBC losing overall by 121-131.

However another great morning's bowling in beautiful sunshine and an excellent lunch to follow meant that everyone enjoyed the occasion, and we look forward to challenging for the Cup again next year

Overall Calpe 2014 - 121-131 BBC -10
