Emaus Charity Event

Sunday 6 October 2013.

Benitachell Bowls Club members played host to members of the Costa Blanca Bikers Espana group last Sunday, with 32 Bowlers taking on 32 Bikers on the green in what turned out to be a most competitive afternoon of bowling on both sides. The eventual winner however was the charity, Children of Emaus with the fantastic sum of 1,410 euros having been raised.

In addition, over 850 euros was raised from the sale of the Bay Radio Biker Babes Charity Calendar which was officially launched during the afternoon and with once again, all funds going to Emaus. This event has attracted major press coverage in all ex-pat newspapers and has also been giving hours of airtime on Bay Radio and all to the benefit of the BBC. This has provided the club with a high profile during recent weeks thanks to the event organiser and club member, Peter Emmett ably assisted by his wife Elizabeth.

On the day of the event, all three car parks were packed to capacity and with at least 200 people in attendance to take part or simply watch this unique bowling event, which also included Cheerleaders and a 4 piece band. Sam and her team served 114 Hot/Cold buffet meals plus extensive bar food and on an afternoon when the club otherwise would have had little or no activity taking place. This will in turn create a donation to club funds. So everyone's a winner!
