Silver Jubilee Challenge Match – Wednesday 2nd October 2013
As part of the Club’s 25th Anniversary celebrations, a mixed triples and rinks challenge match against our closest rivals Javea Green took place Tuesday 2nd October. A total of 12 games (6 triples & 6 fours), involving 42 players from each club, were played concurrently at both venues, with overall shot difference determining the winners.
Following a tremendous morning’s bowling, played in a highly competitive but friendly atmosphere, Javea Green emerged as worthy winners and therefore retained the Jubilee Trophy, for at least another year.
There were notable performances from a number of the BBC teams, playing against a very strong and highly experienced group of Javea players. This overall team performance was all the impressive, as around 30% of BBC’s line-up comprised members who were not regular league players or competitively experienced.
In the mixed fours (Rinks) games, BBC won on three of the six rinks, with a total shot difference of only -2. Our winning rinks teams included:
Jeff Richards, Velia Wood, Bert McLean & Angel Poveda
Peter Collins, Carole Nicholas, Peter Speer & Kenn Denton
Peter Griffiths, Derek Mawson, Richard Gardiner & Christine Mawson
However, one of the most impressive performances of the day belonged to the BBC mixed fours team of, Reg Cutts, Mike Clark, Len Bicheno & Linda Richards, who lost out on the last end by the narrowest of margins, to a team including a couple of international players.
Despite the eventual outcome, there was much to be admired about BBC’s performances in this Challenge match, which bodes well for the future.
Well done to all BBC players and congratulations to Javea Green on today’s success.
Bert McLean, Captain
