ABERDON BOWLS TOURING TEAM

The Aberdon Bowlers Touring Team visited the BBC Tuesday 21st May and our photograph show Tony Lawley Vice Captain of the BBC welcoming the Aberdon players.

Tony Lawley writes:- Aberdon Bowls Touring Side was founded in 1948 and has been touring with groups of bowlers from clubs in the Aberdeen area of Scotland for sixty-five consecutive seasons - quite a record.

Benitachell played host to a lovely group of 34 of their members on Tuesday afternoon, 21st May, and it seemed at first we had tried too hard to make them feel welcome by providing the sort of cloud cover more often seen in their homeland than in Southern Spain in the latter part of May. However we were lucky - and amazed - that the threatened rain did not arrive and once the visitors had enjoyed their lunch we were all able to settle down to a super afternoon's bowling.

The results on these occasions are somewhat incidental, but for the record BBC won on five rinks and Aberdon on three, and overall shots were 146-108. More importantly a really wonderful afternoon in excellent company was enjoyed by all. We hope they'll be back before too long.
